Latest NICNAS Annual Report released

The NICNAS Annual Report for
2005-06 was tabled in Parliament
on Tuesday 10 October by
Hon. Christopher Pyne MP,
Parliamentary Secretary to the
Minister for Health and Ageing.

NICNAS Handbook update

Details for new Controlled Use (Export Only) Permit category

The Handbook for Notifiers - NICNAS's guide to importers, manufacturers and exporters of industrial chemicals in Australia - is currently undergoing review. In the interim, regular updates to the Handbook continue to be made, the latest being the addition of information about the new Controlled Use (Export Only) Permit category.

New Chemicals Application Payments

Latest news on the Review of NICNAS's Existing Chemicals Assessment Program

Interested in knowing more about the EC Review?

Submissions on the subject of NICNAS's Existing Chemicals Assessment Program were received from over 55 organisations, individuals, departments and groups. Most of the submissions were made following the special Promoting safer chemical use: towards better regulation of chemicals in Australia forums that were held across Australia in May and early June.

The final report on the Review - including recommendations - will not be published until later in 2006. Further details will be posted on the NICNAS website at: www.nicnas/gov.au.

Annual Reporting requirements

Annual Reports for the previous registration year (eg. 1 September 2005 to 31 August 2006) are required from introducers importing or manufacturing chemicals under:

• a commercial evaluation permit, and/or
• a low volume chemical permit, and/or
• a controlled use permit, and/or
• a self-assessed assessment certificate, and/or
• an exemption.

Current Secondary Notifications

OLOA 270, HFE-7100, and Infineum

Decisions regarding rrequests to vary the Secondary Notification Reports on:

• HFE-7100 and
• Infineum C9350

were published on pages 11 and 12 of the September 2006 Chemical Gazette.

In accordance with section 65(2) of the Industrial Chemicals (Notification and Assessment) Act 1989 as amended, a notice that the Director requires the secondary notification of the existing chemical OLOA 270 was published in the October 2006 Chemical Gazette.
